Fundamentals of Acting for Middle School Students (6th - 8th Grades)

with Susan Rome

Tuesday afternoons

February 11 - April 8 (8 weeks) | No class on March 11th

4:30PM-6:00PM

In this eight-week foundations course, students will be able to explore and develop the actor’s three main tools: BODY, VOICE, and IMAGINATION. We will do this through Improvisation, or thinking on their feetwithout a pre-written script. The students and teacher will use their imaginations to come up with characters, situations, and scenarios. The students will learn the basic rules of improv, and play a multitude of games that teach common theatrical concepts such as: intention, obstacle, tactics, and beats. They will master both short-form and long-form improvisation, culminating in a series of long-form scenes in the final class session. Improv is a hilarious and challenging theatrical form that gives the middle school-age child an opportunity to express him/herself in a safe arena.

Tuition: $175.

All classes and workshops are scheduled at Performance Workshop Theatre, in Baltimore at 5624 Harford Road.
